Florida Spoonbills 2025

There are few birds as beautiful or elegant as Roseate Spoonbills. Join me on a 3 day photography workshop in central Florida to photograph these beautiful birds and the other wildlife that call this area home. The main focus of this workshop will be to photograph Spoonbills with their vibrant plumage as they wade and feed in the water and as they fly to and from the rookery. Along with Spoonbills, many other bird species inhabit the area and we’ll have many opportunities to photograph various species of Herons and Egrets, Ibises, Pelicans, Oystercatchers and many other species. At the end of each exciting day, you’ll have the option to return to a private island to camp, or you can arrange lodging at a local hotel or Airbnb.

Schedule & other considerations

This Spoonbill rookery is located near Tampa Bay, Florida and is one of, if not the best locations to photograph Spoonbills within the state. We will depart each morning via pontoon boat to our photography location and again in the evening to photograph these birds and the other wildlife during peak wildlife hours and with the best light possible. Waders will be provided as we will be photographing while in the water (tripods recommended) as well as from the pontoon boat. In order to protect the local wildlife, not disturb the birds in the rookery and adhere to area guidelines, we must maintain a minimum distance of approximately 100 ft between ourselves and the island itself, so I recommend bringing the longest lens you have available.
