Bears of Alaska 2024

Experience Alaska's true wild side with this 5 day Brown Bear photography workshop. The main focus of this workshop will be to photograph Brown Bears as they fish for and feed on Salmon, this behavior is truly special to witness! Wrestling bears and mother bears with cubs are also common subjects on these trips. Along with the many bears, there's a huge variety of wildlife that call this area home; Ptarmigan, a variety of shorebirds, Red Foxes, Wolves and Caribou are all species I've seen while exploring this vast wilderness. Make incredible memories while enjoying it all from a truly comfortable basecamp. Warm meals, hot showers, electricity and WIFI will help you feel right at home. I've invested in the best equipment and gear to give you a truly comfortable and unforgettable outdoor experience in the wilds of Alaska.

Schedule

Daylight lasts a long time and we’ll have many photographic opportunities during peak wildlife hours. Our itinerary is flexible and can be catered to the group. Keep in mind that our daily itinerary can be subject to change due to weather. We will be hiking over relatively flat, sometimes uneven surfaces and slight inclines and declines. The best bear spots are relatively close to camp and we don’t need to venture out far to find prime photography opportunities.

Jimmy’s workshop was one of the best workshops I have been on.  I went on his Alaska bears workshop, and something spectacular happened every day.  I got once-in-a-lifetime shots multiple times a day.  We were immersed in bears and the beautiful Alaska environment from sun up to sun down.  Jimmy took the time to make sure I was able to get the shots I was looking for.  The workshop itself was well planned – no details were forgotten.  I highly recommend Jimmy’s workshops.  His passion for wildlife photography is infectious, and I am looking forward to my next outing with him.  My only complaint is that it will be difficult picking out the best pictures. - Randall (2023 workshop participant)

Private Workshops

These are private workshops focused on finding and photographing a specific species or specific animal behavior. Some common examples are Sage Grouse doing their elaborate display on an early spring morning, a rambunctious Fox den, or a couple of Bighorn Sheep butting heads. I thrive on photographing a variety of species and behavior throughout the American west and would love to share the experience with you!

How it works

You choose a species and I’ll find it for you! I’ve photographed many species across the western United States and am familiar with a variety of wildlife rich habitats. If there’s a species you’ve always wanted to photograph, let me know what it is and we’ll discuss the logistics and schedule a time to photograph it!

-Starting at $350, cost varies based on species & desired behavior.
