The rain and wind had finally stopped, for the past three days I had endured a fierce storm that had blown through the area. The Foxes and me both. I had ventured out into an area that I knew well in hopes to photograph the local Fox population. Unfortunately, as soon as the storm started to kick up, the Foxes seemingly disappeared. With only a couple of sightings over the last few days and hardly an opportunity for a decent photo, I was beginning to think that I wouldn’t come away from this trip with any memorable images. It’s times like these when you rely on repetition, hope and persistence to carry you through the storms. I’m not just talking figurative storms, the literal ones too, it was still raining and I was wet and tired, yet, I trudged on.
Sunset was approaching, the rain had finally stopped and a firm breeze was pushing the remaining storm clouds out of the area, things were looking up! The repetition, hope and persistence were still there, but I could also feel excitement and enthusiasm growing within me. This was exactly the type of weather I knew the Foxes preferred. Turning a corner in the trail, there he was! A beautiful Fox looking for insects in a small clearing. And behind him, the setting sun softly filtering through the trees. Such a stunning scene. After taking some pictures, I lowered the camera and took a second to soak in the moment. Three days of wind and rain for a moment like this, I’d do it again in a heartbeat! Repetition, hope and persistence, add that together with some excitement and enthusiasm. The perfect recipe for this memorable experience and photo!
